Lately I’ve been sitting with a beautiful idea from the book I’m reading called Countdown to Riches, by Rhonda Byrne, and it’s sparked something inside me so I wanted to share it with you too.
It’s basically a new way to think about spending money.
Most of us were never taught how to feel safe or supported when it comes to money. We simply absorbed whatever we heard growing up, quietly, subconsciously when we were often very young.
Maybe you grew up hearing things like “Money doesn’t grow on trees” or “We can’t afford that.” Those little phrases sink in deep, and before we even realise it, they shape how we feel every time money leaves our hands.
For many women, it shows up as a tiny tightening in the chest or stomach when we tap our card. Perhaps you hear it as a soft inner whisper of “I hope there’s enough left for everything else I have to pay.”
And without meaning to, spending often becomes an emotional energy drain – not because of the money itself, but because of the stories attached to it.
But here’s the part that I love…
Spending doesn’t have to feel that way, to bring new energy to it that is rooted in trust, gratitude, and possibility instead of fear, contraction, or old inherited beliefs.
Instead of thinking, “I’m losing money,” imagine thinking:
“More is on the way.” “Thank you, this means I’m supported.” or perhaps: “As this goes out, something even better is coming in.”
It’s not about pretending or forcing positivity, it’s about choosing a mindset that feels supportive rather than stressful – a mindset that invites your nervous system to soften and feel safe again.
Because the truth is, the way we feel when we spend money impacts our relationship with money just as much as the numbers do. When you shift the emotional energy around spending, even a little, you create a more open and abundant inner space.
From that space, clarity grows. Confidence grows. And the opportunities you couldn’t quite see before start to become visible again.
So, here’s a gentle practice to try today:
When you pay for something as you go about your day, such as your petrol, coffee, or even your groceries, take a breath and say quietly in your mind:
“Thank you! Thank you! Thankyou! I am so grateful for the money that is available for me. How can it get better than this?”
It’s a simple practice, but goodness… it can create such a powerful internal shift.
If you try it, let me know how it feels for you.
We’re all learning new, more empowering ways of being with money – softly, gently, with one choice at a time.
And truly… You’ve got this!
Remember, true wealth begins within: in safety, in softness and in self-trust.
Have a beautiful day,
Michelle
